Masi presents Monteleone21

Preview reveal, on the occasion of the event for the 250th anniversary of the first harvest, of the new spaces at the Masi site in Gargagnago di Valpolicella: an innovative, multi-purpose location that will be a point of reference for the wine tourism industry, a real “entry gate” to the lands of Amarone.
An ambitious architectonic project in the hallmark of sustainability, which represents the commitment of the traditional cellars towards the territory of Valpolicella Classica.

250 years after Masi’s first harvest, we have the “Monteleone21”, a multi-purpose complex that will extend the current cellars with new spaces dedicated to production, offices and wine tourism, a new “jewel” in the range of Masi Wine Experiences.
The location is still under construction and will be opened to the public next year, but it has been made available for the great celebratory event of Masi’s 250th harvest and unveiled to the international guests and institutions that took part in the event.

The ambitious architectonic project, two thirds of which is underground, embodies the indivisible relationship between the cellars and the territory and has been designed to integrate perfectly with the Valpolicella landscape, reinterpreted in a contemporary key in its most characteristic elements. The multi-purpose structure will in fact look like a grassy hill, covered by vines and vegetation and will be characterised by cladding in local stone, recalling the “marogne”, the typical dry stone walls of the area, which support the hillside vineyards.

“250 years after our first harvest, we are excited to present “Monteleone21”, a project which incorporates the most important values of the Masi brand and represents its past, present and future. This ideal bridge between different eras is well interpreted by the new structure, which will be linked by a long underground passageway to our traditional site and the Gargagnago cellars” Sandro Boscaini, President of Masi Agricola, declared. “It will be an ideal entry gate to the lands of the Amarone and Valpolicella Classica, with the aim of continuing to optimise our territory of origin and its excellences”.

Federico Girotto, Chief Executive Officer of Masi Agricola explains: “with ‘Monteleone21’, the Masi Wine Experience, our strategic project aiming to achieve an ever more direct contact with the end consumer, benefits from another important piece. It is a real “open cellar”, designed to welcome visitors to an immersion route of experiences, starting with a monumental 12-metre tall “fruttaio” (drying loft), used for the appassimento of the grapes for the Amarone, a technique in which Masi boasts world-recognised expertise”.

“Monteleone21” has been co-designed by Studio Cecchini, by the architects Libero and Vittorio Cecchini, and by the architect Giovanna Mar, who is developing it together with the architect Alessandro Beghini. Studio Mar has 60 years of experience in town planning of tourism and tourism accommodation structures and infrastructures, as well as museums, and sees sustainability as one of its main areas of research.
“Monteleone21” has, in fact, been designed to be sustainable in all aspects: from its integration into the territory to the use of renewable sources like photovoltaic and geothermal energy, to the minimisation of energy consumption, for example with cross-ventilation.
