New awards from critics and wine guides 2023

Appreciation of Masi’s wines is confirmed by the most authoritative wine critic, thereby showing the constancy and quality guarantee offered by the cellars under the guidance of the Masi Technical Group, which is always actively involved in restoring and updating the vine-growing and wine-making heritage of Triveneto.

From the United States, the magazine Wine Enthusiast appoints the Masi Amarone wines for the “Buying Guide Best of Year 2022” as the best of Valpolicella Classica, out of a total of 27 wines mentioned in the category. The Campolongo di Torbe 2013 of the “Cantina Privata Boscaini” scores 97/100, coming in amongst the world’s top 10 wines tasted by the magazine’s authoritative critics in 2022. The magazine also assigns 94 points to the Costasera 2017, 95 points to the Mazzano 2013, and 93 points to the Riserva Costasera 2016.

The 2016 vintage of Costasera enters the “Top 100 Cellar Selections” with 95 points, making it one of the world’s top 100 aged wines, again according to Wine Enthusiast. The Costasera, which is the only Amarone on the list - in which Italy features with 17 different labels, coming after France, with 18 and the United States of America, with 38. It is described as follows: “Ripe black-skinned fruit, blue flower and baking spice aromas form the nose of this full-bodied red along with a whiff of cedar. Concentrated but possessing a weightless elegance, the smooth, enveloping palate delivers prune marinated in spirits, black cherry, licorice and cocoa framed in velvety tannins. Drink through 2036.”

Raffaele Boscaini, seventh generation of the family and coordinator of the Masi Technical Group commented on the acknowledgement: “Once again it is the Costasera, Masi’s flagship product, that represents the Valpolicella Amarone amongst the great Italian aged reds and appreciated worldwide. Year after year, Costasera continues to show us its extraordinary transformation. We were able to test this resistance to the passing of time precisely last month, during the celebrations of my family’s 250th harvest in the historic vineyard of Vaio dei Masi. In a vertical tasting session that covered seven decades from 1958 to 2016. The event revealed not only the capacity to age but also a constant evolution of the product, which, amidst vine-growing and wine-making, have allowed the Costasera to keep pace with the times whilst preserving its ancient heart”.

Moreover, Campolongo di Torbe 2013 enters James Suckling's Top 100 Wines of Italy with 96 points.

The Vaio Armaron, a valuable cru obtained from the historic Tenute Serego Alighieri, already acknowledged by Wine Spectator in the "Top Ten" world’s best wines, has also had its excellence confirmed in Italy, where it obtained Three Gold Stars in the “I Vini di Veronelli” 2023 golden guide for the 2015 vintage.

A mention also goes to Conti Bossi Fedrigotti with the Mas'Est Teroldego 2021 in the thirty-second edition of the “BereBene” 2023 guide produced by Gambero Rosso, which lists the best wines of each region of Italy on sale at less than 15 euros.

Finally, as fir the first edition in 2012, Masi is confirmed as an ambassador of “Made in Italy” and for 2023 has once again been named by Wine Spectator on the list of the 130 Italian cellars set to star at the preview OperaWine event organised for Vinitaly 2023.
