Tasting of seven decades of Masi Amarone

The initiatives organised to celebrate the 250th Boscaini family harvest include a tasting session of seventy years of Masi Amarone, from the 1950s to date, guided by the Masi Technical Group.

The event welcomed a group of reference international journalists from all over the world.

In the Possessioni Serego Alighieri on14th October, the day dedicated to the celebration of Masi’s 250th harvest, an unprecedented tasting session proposed by the Masi Technical Group took place, which brought thirty of some of the most authoritative industry press journalists from all over the world to Valpolicella.

In the presence of Sandro Boscaini, President of Masi Agricola, Raffaele Boscaini, Coordinator of the Technical Group and Marketing Director, Giacomo Boscaini, Export Manager and Brand Ambassador, Andrea Dal Cin Oenology Director, Federico Girotto, Group CEO, a vertical/horizontal tasting session of seven decades of Masi Amarone Masi was organised , from 1958 to date.

The session offered up the opportunity to really understand the specific characteristics of the Amarone, increasingly popular due to its production and organoleptic originality, through a long journey through time, made possible by the hundred-year-old private “library” of Masi Amarone.
It has been an opportunity to see the variations brought about by social changes and those in taste as well as technological progress, along with those that are a consequence of climate change and vintage diversity. It was interesting to address the age-old question: “is the Amarone most characterised by its technique or the expression of the terroir?”

Raffaele Boscaini commented: “it was a valuable, stimulating opportunity for a comparison of ideas that gave us the chance and honour to share opinions with some of the most authoritative industry experts from all over the world. The meeting proved the exceptional nature of the Amarone, a wine that never fails to amaze, able to express itself to the best in its longevity and changeability of the various vintages and production techniques. The tasting session showed the great technique employed with this wine and, at the same time, its consistency with the land in which it grows, confirming it as an expression of the terroir”.

There were two flights scheduled:

- the first “The evolution of the Amarone Costasera and Riserva Costasera" focused on the evolution of the Amarone over the decades, starting 1958, tasting the Masi Amarone Classico, then called Costasera, as well as, for two decades, to the Costasera Riserva, characterised by the addition of the ancient Oseleta grape to the classic variety.
