Masi at TFWA: the international Duty-Free fair in Cannes

Attendance once again for the Veronese winery Masi Agricola as one of the premium brands at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes, the international fair dedicated to Duty-Free and Travel Retail, from Monday 1 to Thursday 5 October at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, at the Blue Village - stand F4.

Masi, one of the first wineries to participate in the Duty Free sector, will have a focus on wines dedicated to this specific channel of distribution - Nectar Campofiorin and Nectar Costasera – special cuvées of the two iconic Masi wines Campofiorin and Costasera, enhanced with a greater percentage of the Corvina grape, the nectar of Valpolicella, in the blend.

Campofiorin, also in the Nectar version, will be presented at the fair with a new look and style with the 2020 vintage. The label of this original Supervenetian has been enlarged with the addition of a background that supports and enhances the oval section with the historic cornucopia, and the red logo has been picked out with a light golden outline. The wine also benefits from an evolution in style: harvesting is marginally later and there is an increase in the use of dried grapes to make an even more harmonious, rounded and satisfying product, with a fruitiness that is even more well balanced and attractive.

The TFWA World Exhibition is also the place for a preview of the 2019 vintage of Nectar Costasera, which has an increase in percentage of the Corvina grape to give the wine greater fruitiness, with attractive cherry tastes and greater smoothness and drinkability. This iconic Masi product also has small modifications in packaging to refresh its image while remaining faithful to its original concept.

"Over the last 60 years, Campofiorin has created an authentic category, that of the Supervenetian and has become its undisputed leader; the flagship of Made in Italy. The wine is distributed in over 140 countries with a true omnichannel approach: restaurants, hotels, specialised wine shops, large-scale retail trade, online and travel retail," explains Piergiuseppe Torresani, Export and Travel Retail Sales Director at Masi. "Campofiorin is indisputably part of the category of the global icons that enjoy transversal distribution and are must-haves for those who offer them and those who buy them. Products that are at home everywhere for their eclecticism and iconic status."

The TFWA audience will also learn something new about Fresco di Masi, the line that presents a new vision of sustainability: two organic, vegan wines, produced from grapes vinified immediately after harvest, unfiltered, and without any use of wood ageing. The new 2022 vintage is bottled in the signature "Masi bottle", the product of a collaboration between Masi, the historic winery, Piero Lissoni, the internationally renowned architect and designer, and Verallia, a company that is an international benchmark for the design and supply of glass containers.

This innovative project is based on sustainability and the creation of a lightweight bottle one third the weight of an average bottle of similarly positioned wine, thus making a "virtuous circle" by reducing the quantity of glass used and the amount of raw material required for production, and decreasing the amount of energy required for processing, transport and handling. The quest for lightness has been accompanied by that of aesthetics and design, resulting in a bottle that is thin, elegant and durable at the same time.

This year, the Masi stand (Blue Village, F4), will be located next to the other members of the "Travel Retail Fine Wine Alliance", a group set up to promote fine wine in synergy in the ever rapidly evolving world of Travel Retail. The "Wine Alliance" increases in size this year to six of the world's leading producers including, in addition to Masi, Albert Bichot, Cono Sur, González Byass, Symington, and Famille Perrin of Chateauneuf du Pape.

The six wineries will also meet for an "Exclusive Tasting" on Tuesday 3 October at 5.30 pm at Mandala Beach along the Croisette. Each will present two of its most prestigious wines available globally; for Masi the tasting will include Nectar Costasera 2018, plus the Amarone cru Mazzano 2007, a prestigious old vintage from the Cantina Privata Boscaini collection.
