The Jet Cup 2017, the eleventh edition of the Japanese competition run by our importer JET (Japan Europe Trading) which sees top Japanese sommeliers compete in the tasting and description of Italian wines, has just finished at the Institute of Italian Culture in Tokyo
This year’s winner is Sadanobu Takebayashi, owner of Vineria Nagano in the eponymous city, who stood out not just for his extraordinary knowledge of Italian wines, but also for his powers as a communicator and a host, transmitting his welcome and hospitality to assembled guests.
Sadanobu Takebayashi said about his victory: “in preparing for this competition, I never stopped thinking about the meaning of hospitality. It is thanks to the clients who come back to my place every day that I am on this stage today. Thanks to this victory, I want to continue my work with renewed enthusiasm and welcome everyone who comes to see me with a smile.”
The winner’s prize was a study tour of Italy, including a visit to the wineries, like Masi, that sponsor the competition, as well as a selection of Italian wines and the title of “ambassador for Italian wine” granted by the Italian embassy in Tokyo.
